Great News about Bourne College Memorial

"The Birmingham Historian" 2001

In the last newsletter, Quinton Local History Society told us about the loss of a memorial from Bourne College, a tribute to those from the college who lost their lives in the First World War.

The society’s aim was to resurrect the memorial and an appeal fund was started to raise £ 500, the cost of a new memorial. The good news is that the money is raised thanks to donations from society members, Quinton residents, local businesses, the Western Front and a generous contribution of £ 300 from The Birmingham City Council LILA Fund.

The memorial, which will be in oak, is being made by Paul Baker of Diabolus in Musica and should be ready for mid-June 2001.

The memorial’s home will be in the foyer of Quinbourne Community Centre, Ridgacre Road, Quinton. The unveiling will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday 30th June 2001 and will be performed by a good friend of the society and champion of Brummagem causes, Dr Carl Chinn.

Everyone is welcome to attend but we would ask you to use off road parking and not the Centre’s Car Park. The centre’s location is Birmingham’s A-Z, page 87 ref. 1G.
